Moscow is divided into 10 administrative districts (okrugs), numbered on the map above and indexed with links to the left of the map. The listing of individual banyas below is sorted by administrative district. Districts numered 1 through 9 have directional names in Russian, for example, “Severnyi Okrug” means “Northern District”; hence the English abbeviations.
The listing below has two columns. The left column is in Russian Cyrillic and gives the bare-bones information needed to contact the banya and navigate to it. That little box is all you need to show to a concierge or taxi driver or Muscovite on the street to get directions. The right-hand column gives you a transliteration of the left-hand column plus additional details in English.
Details in the list below should be confirmed by telephone before venturing out to visit any banya. Such items as hours of operation, men-only days, days closed, prices, and even telephone numbers may change without notice. Prices given on other banya lists are not copied here, as there is no way to know if they are up to date.

Steam room walls are of aspen. Premises are new, clean, and efficient. Water is sprinkled not on rocks but on iron pigs heated red hot. A local Russian reviewer opined that this banya is attractive but expensive. The Pokrovskie bani may well be more interesting and a better value. Another, non-Russian viewpoint describes it as a modest banya but with plenty of space, so there is no serious overcrowding in either of the two steam rooms. The steam is very hot in the first of these; the second, smaller one provides a lighter, drier steam and lower temperatures. The small pool is clean and appreciably colder than Sandunovskiye’s. A great bargain. |

However, satisfied customers abound after just two hours of steam. One of the most unfussy of banyas. You can find a banya like this in any distant Russian locality. The minute you enter, you know that this is a new generation of banya. The style of the entire interior is conservative hi-tech. Guests are tracked with a computer system, the staff is very courteous. Were it not for the low price you'd think you were in a banya for the upper classes.
